Speaker at the “People, Intelligence, Security and Smart Environments” Event

On 5 October 2026, I had the pleasure of participating as a speaker at the event “People, Intelligence, Security and Smart Environments”, hosted by the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bari Aldo Moro and organised within the research activities of SERLAB and SER&P.

The event provided an important opportunity for discussion and knowledge sharing among universities, research centres and companies, showcasing the preliminary results of four research and innovation projects funded under the Reti and PIA programmes of the Apulia Region and developed through strong collaboration between academia and industry.

During the event, I presented the latest progress of the ThermoNET project, an initiative aimed at supporting the digital transformation of businesses through the integration of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, and Smart Logistics technologies. The project focuses on developing innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency, data analysis capabilities and decision-making processes in public safety and industrial environments.

Alongside ThermoNET, three other research projects were presented:

  • SMART – System for Matching and Ranking Talents, focused on intelligent solutions for talent matching and ranking;
  • CYBER-PREDICT – Cyber Vulnerability Ranking Prediction by Prescription, dedicated to innovative methodologies for predicting, prioritising and managing cybersecurity vulnerabilities;
  • SETH – Security Education and Training Hybrid-Wargame, aimed at advancing cybersecurity education and training through simulation-based learning and hybrid wargaming approaches.

Although addressing different application domains, all four projects share a common vision: fostering scientific research and accelerating technology transfer by transforming research outcomes into practical solutions capable of addressing the challenges of digital transformation.

The event also highlighted the strategic importance of collaboration between universities and businesses in strengthening the regional innovation ecosystem. The presentation of the first project results demonstrated how multidisciplinary cooperation can bring together scientific, technological and industrial expertise to generate tangible impact for organisations and the wider community.

I would like to thank the organisers, project partners and all participants for the valuable discussions and exchange of ideas. Events like this reaffirm the importance of building strong research networks and investing in innovation to shape the technologies of the future.
